We customize all of our events to meet your needs. We can handle all of the cooking for your large group function or we can provide the BBQ only and you can do the rest. We often sell just one BBQ Shoulder and sauce for small functions. For more offerings, see our Menu.

This makes a great function for team building events, engagement/dinner parties, wedding rehearsal dinners, bachelor parties and family events.
For your next event we’ll bring the food and equipment and teach you how to cook barbeque. You and your friends can join our crew from start to finish. We’ll teach you about equipment and tools, fire management, temperature control, meat preparation, spices sauces & rubs, and prep for serving your event. You can help us set up, tend the fires, cook the meal and prep for service. We help you adjust your recipes and give you recipe suggestions. We can cater anything from our Menu for your event.

Our Pitmaster, Ed Wilson, has over 25 years of barbeque experience, is a certified judge, and has been a member of the camp staff for the North Carolina Barbecue Society (NCBS). Volunteering with NCBS allows him to stay current on new tips & techniques and to mentor aspiring Pitmasters.
My name is Ed Wilson and I am the owner and Pitmaster for Pig Red BBQ. I have over 25 years experience cooking barbecue and I am a certified barbeque judge. I was born & raised and now live & cook in Burlington, North Carolina.
I stared cooking BBQ when I was in college while tailgating for NC State Football games. A group of friends wanted to move beyond hamburgers and brats so we set out to cook a whole hog. A friend introduced me to an Eastern NC farmer that, over the phone, gave me a set of instructions and an Eastern NC sauce recipe. I rented a cooker, selected a hog and had great success on my first cook!
We cooked several hogs per football season throughout the rest of my time in college. When I returned home, I continued cooking for friends and family, catering several socials, rehearsal dinners, weddings and parties per year. I specialized in whole hog pig pickings cooked over wood and charcoal.
I next took on the challenge of competition cooking with my grandfather assisting. We cooked in a few local competitions, had some success, but untimely realized that competition cooking required more time than we could devote.
From there, a local church asked me to get involved in their BBQ fundraiser. For the past 18 years I have been the Pitmaster for this grand cook. We cook about 2,500 pounds of BBQ hams annually and the fundraiser has become a staple in our community.
I now try to give back to the barbeque community. I volunteer with the North Carolina Barbecue Society (NCBS) and have been on the camp staff at their BBQ School. This allows me to stay current on new tips & techniques and to mentor aspiring Pitmasters.
Just as I have grown from propane and charcoal briquettes to hardwood and lump charcoal so too has my barbeque expertise. So after 25+ years of cooking for friends, family and the community I have started a catering company, Pig Red BBQ.

We also regularly cook BBQ Shoulders, BBQ Chicken and Ribs. Typical sides include Baked Beans & Cole Slaw but I also offer Boiled Potatoes, Potato Salad, BBQ Slaw, Green Beans, Mac & Cheese, or Collard Greens with Banana Pudding or Cobbler for dessert.
A typical BBQ Dinner served buffet style usually costs $17.00 – $20.00+ per person plus tax, the difference being the number of proteins, sides and desserts that you choose as well as the need for paper products and/or service(ers).
